The Nicole (Nikki) D. Scott Scholarship Fund (the “Nikki Fund”) intends to offer two to four scholarships annually for $1,000 to $2,000 each for college bound students from New York City Public High Schools listed on the High Schools page. The scholarship funds may be used for any general educational expense such as tuition, room and board, and school supplies.
Eligible applicants will be New York City residents who are high school seniors in the New York City Public High Schools listed on the High Schools page who have been accepted to a college or university. These high school seniors will be able to submit a scholarship application pursuant to the instructions on this website. The Board of Directors of the Nikki Fund will choose a Selection Committee that will review each application and select potential scholarship recipients. The Selection Committee will make recommendations for potential scholarship recipients based on academic achievement, personal values and goals, financial need, commitment to education and personal essay statement and/or personal interview.
All scholarship recipients will be chosen by the Board of Directors in its sole discretion. Scholarship recipients will not be based on familial, business or other similar relationships and no scholarship will benefit any director, officer or member of the Selection Committee directly or indirectly. All scholarships shall comply with the Nikki Fund’s Conflict of Interest Policy.
Before disbursing any funds, the Nikki Fund will enter into a scholarship agreement with the recipient. The agreement will outline the conditions of the scholarship, including the amount, the purposes to which funds can be applied, and rules governing the use of any unexpected funds; the scholarship period; a statement acknowledging the Nikki Fund’s authority to withhold and/or recover grant funds in case funds are, or appear to be, misused; the conditions for periodic review; and the requirements for a final written report and accounting of the grant. The final accounting must include a description of the specific purposes for which the funds were used and receipts that account for the funds. The reports must be provided to the Nikki Fund within a reasonable period of time after the completion of the school year.
Scholarship recipients are invited to re-apply for repeat scholarships provided they continue their college or university programs in a satisfactory manner and they have complied with the scholarship agreement. If repeated scholarships are awarded to the same recipient, the Nikki Fund will engage in the same procedures every time a scholarship is awarded.
